a peek inside my sketchbook- stories for lucy

I've been drawing pictures for Lucy since the early days but now that she is getting older I have been making time to start illustrating stories for her. When I was pregnant I would daydream about all the ways I could incorporate creativity into being a mom and my biggest dream was writing and illustrating books for my daughter. Now that she is two and loves and understands how much fun books are, it is time to put those daydreams into action! Slowly but surely I have been picking away at the first (of many) books for her- it is based on the stories I tell her at bedtime about a little girl who has adventures with all kinds of animals. Here is a little peek into my initial sketches.

This is so funny because my friend was just telling me last night that I need to do the same thing! I love what you're doing for your daughter because she will absolutely treasure these for years to come! Great job, mama!

I love the looks on Lucy face. It makes me wonder what is she thinking as she intensely gazes at the beautiful hand drawn pictures.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this! My father wrote a story for us when my siblings and I were little. I have always wanted to illustrate it. :-)

These are beautiful! My son who is six would love it if I illustrated stories for him. But there is only so much poop a person could draw. He's six. His interests are limited.

So beautiful, and such a wonderful idea. I love that you've made the pages into individual cards (at least for now) - you're inspiring me to do the same for my little guy.

Beautiful sketches. You should publish a book that you have written the story and illustrated it. I am sure that more beyond your daughter would love to see them.

Wow! I can't think of a more precious gift for your child. Additionally, you've provided a lot of inspiration for others to use their gifts in a very meaningful way. I love how consistent your artistic style is--no matter if you're creating doodle flowers, shells, people, etc. It's fabulous...and I think it's something that eludes many artists.

Alisa, I have been interested in your work for years. I can't tell you enough how much you have given to me as an artist and how visually stimulating your work is. I have been meaning to tell you for awhile but I really hope to be half the mom that you are. When I was a kid I never got the sort of stimulation Lucy is receiving by making art with you, let alone being read to, and you're creating books FOR HER. I lost my mom when I was 17, and now I'm on the verge of 23. I thank you for sharing your art work with us...I can't wait to have kids one day and create art with them. Lucy is so lucky to have you and your husband. I can't wait to see more of your adventures. xo

Beautiful illustrations. It is so sweet how you continue to document the wonderful memories and journey of a mother and of a family. I hope to one day see your books for Lucy published so they can be shared with generations to come. Happy writing and illustrating.
